INTERMOPES will analyze the effects of land transport infrastructure both on landscape capacity to maintain biodiversity and on stakeholders role and interaction.
The objective is also to propose innovative methods and tools: decision-making tools in environmental and land management, tools about spatial representation and dialogue.
We will analyze two land infrastructures to be built between Arles and Montpellier in the next years.
The issues are landscape quality and dynamics (Costières of Nimes PDO, Crau and Camargue landscapes), biodiversity conservation (Natura 2000 area, little bustard population) and social dynamics (vineyard, periurbanisation…). Our research team associates landscape ecologists, naturalists, geographers, socio-economists and managers from various structure.

Our questions are :
- How does a terrestrial transport infrastructure impact the landscape, both on the environmental and social levels ?
- Which are the best study's scales of these impacts?
- How the mode of dialogue influences the social acceptance of the infrastructure, but also the potential reorganizations of the landuse?
- How the integration of other policies or decisions on landuse is concerned by this transport infrastructure project ?
The studied infrastructures are the highspeed railway line between Nimes and Montpellier and the motorway bypass around Arles.
