Ecological continuities
- Restoration of ecological continuities on existing transport infrastructures, operational call of the Water and Biodiversity Directorate
Restoration of ecological continuities on existing transport infrastructures, operational call of the Water and Biodiversity Directorate
The quality of ecological continuities is one of the parameters that guarantees the conservation status of a species and the proper functioning of populations. Linear transport infrastructures can have strong impacts on ecological continuities by breaking up or fragmenting them if they do not take these requirements into account from their design. While new projects, in application of the regulations, must be designed in such a way as to avoid such impacts (or, where appropriate, to reduce or compensate for them), existing infrastructures, particularly the oldest ones, put into service before the application of the current regulatory provisions, may have been designed without taking ecological continuities into account, or may include developments that are little or not effective from the point of view of ecological functionality.
In this context, the Water and Biodiversity Directorate of the MEDDE supported in 2011 and 2012 the realization of projects of renovation of transport infrastructures (roads, railroads, waterways) allowing in particular the resorption of "biodiversity" black spots identified within the framework of public policies in favor of biodiversity or environmental assessments, the valorization of the results obtained being ensured by the ITTECOP research program.
The closing seminar of this call was held on December 4 in the premises of Sciences Po Lille. José Ruiz, Deputy Director of the Natural Spaces Department and Bruno Villalba, President of the Scientific Council of the ITTECOP research program, chaired the day which allowed the 120 people present: elected officials, operational actors and researchers, to dialogue together to share the fruits of their experiences on exemplary operations. The day was organized in 3 thematic sessions (tools, long term, political action) arranged around transversal questions. These sessions were completed by a poster session during which the project leaders were able to detail the results obtained.
