The aim of the APADA project is to demonstrate the value of data collected in the context of preventive archaeology in addressing current issues relating to climate change, biodiversity loss and, more generally, all issues relating to human-environment interactions.
The project is divided into two parts: the first involves modeling, implementing, feeding and disseminating structured datasets that can be used by governmental organizations in charge of environmental policies. The second component is based on the definition and application of protocols for collecting and processing paleoenvironmental data on the scale of major infrastructure projects such as the Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque, the Seine-Nord Europe Canal and the Grand Projet Ferroviaire du Sud-Ouest. This component will make the most of the dense network of trial trenching and, more occasionally, excavations, which represent so many opportunities to shed light on the past. The disciplinary fields involved in the project are archaeobotany, geosciences (geology, geomorphology, pedology, etc.), archaeology and absolute chronology. The funding requested concerns fixed-term contracts and services aimed at obtaining absolute dates for the deposits studied. The spatial and temporal location of the data collected are two of the project's key parameters.
The whole project relies on Inrap's ability to manage the data it produces to make them understandable, accessible and exploitable outside the archaeological sphere.
