Soil biodiversity and carbon of transportation infrastructures’ green dependencies.
Green infrastructure dependencies represent thousands of hectares of vegetated soil across the French territory. However, these soils remain poorly understood in terms of their biodiversity and carbon content. This is mainly because they have often been subject to earthworks and management practices that significantly differentiate them from the surrounding soils monitored for soil quality, such as those in the RMQS.
The present project aims, on one hand, to better understand infrastructure soils through sampling campaigns on dozens of infrastructure sites (roads, highways, railways, airports, solar farms, etc.) to better comprehend their diversity and the links between the structure of microbial communities and the carbon cycle. On the other hand, the project will establish and monitor experimental setups of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in the context of green herbaceous dependencies, including airport grasslands, to evaluate their impact on biodiversity and carbon storage.
As part of the project's result dissemination actions, it is planned to outline the development of a Label Bas Carbone methodology dedicated to green dependencies.
